3 construction workers died as a result of injuries sustained on Noah Properties projects:
On December 21, 2020, Yaroslav Zhuk was working on the Noah Properties project on the 4200 block of West Belmont Avenue in Chicago. There was not proper fall protection in place at the site, and Yaroslav fell approximately 40 feet and landed in a dumpster. He was rushed to the hospital with skull and multiple facial fractures. After arriving at the hospital, Yaroslav had to have part of his skull removed to alleviate the swelling and bleeding of his brain. Yaroslav's condition declined due to his multiple injuries and he died on January 4, 2021. A section of the Medical Examiner's report is below.
In 2019, Noah Properties was adding a 3rd story roof deck and small 4th floor addition to an existing house at 1246 North Astor Street. A worker, Josef Sedlacek, was installing copper around a large bay window. As he was on top of the window using a propane torch to heat up the copper panels and a hammer to flatten it, he fell. The worker struck the ground and was killed.
Vasyl Grydzhan was killed on December 30th 2014 on a Noah Properties project at 2647 W Medill Avenue in Chicago. According to the US Department of Labor Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA), Vasyl was “laying bricks from a tubular welded frame scaffold. He fell from the scaffold, approximately 27 feet, and died.”
